General | | Biography: | “The voice booms, roars, rumbles through his 6’5” frame and bellows forth when he sings, even when he speaks, a Basso Profundo” (The Washington Post). Mr. Thompson a native of Washington, D.C. and is an Alumnus of The Juilliard School.
Mr. Thompson is at home in both opera and concert. He has appeared as Sarastro in Mozart’s Die Zauberflote, and Il Commendatore in Don Giovanni. He has also performed Sparafucile in Verdi’s Rigoletto, Colline in Puccini’s La Boheme, Grandpa Moss in Copland’s Tender Land and the Jailer in Puccini’s Tosca. He has appeared as the bass soloist in the Verdi Requiem, the Mozart Requiem, and Handel’s Messiah, Hadyn’s Die Schopfung, Lord Nelson Mass, and Stravinsky’s Les Noces. He has presented recitals at The Library of Congress, The Pentagon and sung with the United States Naval Academy Band Mr. Thompson was a recipient of a fellowship to attend Aspen Music Festival and School. He also received prizes from the Paul Robeson, Rosa Ponselle, Meistersinger and National Symphony Orchestra Competitions. In 2005 he was featured in a recording of “Old Man River” in an audio walk artwork exhibit entitled Words Drawn in Water by artist Janet Cardiff as a permit part of the Smithsonian Institute’s Hirschorn Gallery in Washington, D.C.. |
