General | | Biography: | Rod Gilfry has established himself as a compelling performer on the world's operatic stages, as well as a distinguished recital and concert artist. He earned a Master's degree in Vocal Arts at the University of Southern California and also studied with the late Martial Singher. He is closely associated with the Metropolitan Opera in New York and the opera companies of Los Angeles, San Francisco, Dallas, Munich and Zurich where his roles include Figaro, Marcello, Valentin, Belcore and Count Almaviva. He created the role of Stanley Kowalski in the world première of André Previn's 'A Street Car Named Desire' for the San Francisco Opera, which was both filmed and recorded. He has presented his critically acclaimed Billy Budd throughout the world including the Paris Opera and the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. He created the role of Nathan in the world premiere of Nicholas Maw’s ‘Sophie’s Choice’ at Covent Garden, which he reprised for Washington Opera. Last year he made his role debut as Prospero in Ades 'The Tempest' for Santa Fe Opera and he recently made his debut as De Guiche in 'Cyrano de Bergerac' at the Palau de les Artes, Valencia. |
