Biography:Mikhail Petrenko is emerging at the forefront of the new generation of great singers from the Mariinsky Theatre and is already creating quite a stir in Europe and America. The quality of his voice is unmistakable, with its firm resonance and beauty. Surely he will be at the centre of the long tradition of fine Russian basses.

Among his future plans he will sing return to the Metropolitan Opera for Hunding in 'Die Walkure' conducted by James Levine and Sparafucile in 'Rigoletto'.

He has sung Ramfis in 'Aida' and Varlaam in 'Boris Godunov' at the Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin, Sarastro in 'Die Zauberflote' at the Teatro Carlo Felice, Genoa, the 'Verdi Requiem' with the Orchestre de Paris conducted by Christoph Eschenbach, Hunding in 'Die Walkure' at the Aix en Provence Festival and at the Salzburg Festival and the Pope in 'Benvenuto Cellini' at the Salzburg Festival.

His future engagements include Ferrando in 'Il Trovatore' at the Royal Opera House, London, Hagen in 'Gotterdammerung' with Sir Simon Rattle at the Salzburg Festival.

He will also sing Grande Inquisitore in 'Don Carlo', Lorenzo in 'Capuleti e Montecchi', Basilio in 'Il Barbiere di Siviglia' and 'Romeo and Juliet ' at the Opera National de Paris, Bastille, the Gunoud 'Romeo et Juliet' at the Salzburg Festival and Hunding in 'Die Walkure' at the Hamburgische Staatsoper.
