Born in Lancashire, bass Brindley Sherratt studied at the Royal Academy of Music.

At the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden his roles have included Jeronimus (Maskerade), He-Ancient (The Midsummer Marriage), Publio (La clemenza di Tito) and Marchese di Calatrava (La forza del Destino). In Salzburg he has sung Balducci (Benvenuto Cellini) with Gergiev and Hobson (Peter Grimes) with Rattle. At the Glyndebourne Festival he has appeared as Rocco (Fidelio), Superintendent Budd (Albert Herring) and Immigration Officer (Flight). A favourite at the English National Opera, his roles there have included Sparafucile (Rigoletto), Claudio (Agrippina) and Sarastro (Die Zauberflöte).

Other operatic engagements include his U.S. debut at Santa Fe Opera singing both the Commendatore (Don Giovanni) and Claudio; Rocco in Seville; Sarastro at the Hamburg State Opera; Theseus (A Midsummer Night’s Dream) at La Monnaie, Brussels; Leporello (Don Giovanni), Ferrando (Il Trovatore), Gremin (Eugene Onegin) and Sarastro at the Welsh National Opera and Sparafucile for Opera North.

His future engagements include Gremin at Covent Garden and at the Welsh National Opera; Ramfis (Aida) and Sarastro at the ENO and Superintendent Budd at the Glyndebourne Festival.

In concert he has appeared with the Ensemble Intercontemporain with Boulez, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra with Harding, the Mozarteum Orchestra with Bolton and L'Orchestre des Champs-Elysées with Langrée. He has recorded Somnus / Cadmus (Semele) for Chandos, Ubaldo (Donizetti’s ‘Imelda de Lambertazzi’) for Opera Rara and Haydn Masses with the Monteverdi Choir and Sir John Eliot Gardiner.
