General | | Biography: | William Andrew Stuckey is an operatic baritone whose performances have been acclaimed for their visceral power and beauty while his voice has been praised as a “strong, soaring baritone”.
Mr. Stuckey continues to expand his repertoire, adding the infamous Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor with Syracuse Opera and Connecticut Grand Opera. Last year he made his debut in France at the Festival Lyrique-en-mer singing the title role in Verdi’s comic opera, Falstaff. Previously, there was a string of successes as Tonio in various productions of I Pagliacci. He performed Germont in La Traviata at the Santa Fe Opera and Sharpless in Madama Butterfly with the Lyric Opera of Chicago. Mr. Stuckey drew accolades for portraying Conte di Luna in Sarasota Opera’s acclaimed production of Il Trovatore, and has created leading roles at opera houses throughout the United States including the Washington National Opera, Palm Beach Opera, Augusta Opera, Toledo Opera, Delaware Opera, and Opera Roanoke.
No stranger to concert work, exciting performances of Beethoven’s 9th symphony, Dvorak’s Te Deum, Britten’s War Requiem, Handel’s Messiah, and Mozart’s Requiem are among the highlights of his career. The form of the recital has received much attention in his repertoire and continues to be an important part of this singer’s art.
An acclaimed singer, many prestigious prizes and grants have been awarded to him. Some of these awards include the Sara Tucker study grant, the William Mattheus Sullivan Foundation grant, and The Union League grant. He has won first prize in both the Florida Grand Opera’s Young Patronesses of the Opera competition and the Palm Beach Opera competition. He was also a National Semi-Finalist for the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions.
Mr. Stuckey has had the privilege to work with some of the most renowned teachers, directors, conductors, and coaches in the music world and they have taught him much, not just about vocal technique and performance, but also about the pursuit of excellence in opera.
