Biography:Melissa Zapin has enjoyed a diverse performance career which has included national and international performances in the areas of classical, Broadway and pop music. Most recently Melissa performed an aria from Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte in Vienna, Austria as part of the Mozart Festival. Melissa was Miss Hawaii in 1996 and made hundreds of appearances and guest performances during her year of service. She went on to the Miss America Pageant where she was one of the top ten finalists and won the Talent Award for her performance of “Ah! Je Veux Vivre” from Romeo and Juliet. She also won the Swimsuit Award. Melissa enjoyed an active opera career while still living in Hawaii and was a special guest soloist for the Hawaii Opera Theatre’s annual Opera Ball and the Honolulu Symphony’s 100th Anniversary Ball.

Melissa also performed in lead rolls at the Diamond Head Theatre in Oahu, including Cinderella in Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella and Christine in Maurey Yeston’s Phantom. She was a first place winner of the National Society of Arts and Letters’ Opera Competition in Honolulu. Aside from her operatic performances, Melissa often appeared as a guest host for local Honolulu news shows including CBS and NBC. In addition to sharing her soprano talents as Ms. Hawaii, Melissa served the community in many charitable capacities and formed Grandma’s Angels, a volunteer organization which arranged for groups of volunteer children to visit over 20 nursing homes to entertain the elderly residents. In 2001 Melissa’s dream of moving to New York became a reality when, with a few boxes and a unique soprano voice, she left the swaying palm trees behind to take on the Big Apple.

Her credits since that time have included playing Christina in the weekly Off-Broadway production of Birdy’s Bachelorette Party at the Culture Club and appearances on Sex and The City (HBO), Fantasy Island (ABC/TV), and a travel series pilot for MTV.

Melissa has also done numerous voice-overs including a 2005 Budweiser Super Bowl commercial and a 2006 classical opera CD produced by El Records which specializes in production of custom branded CDs for high-end hotels and restaurants. She is also frequently used for parody voice-over work on The Howard Stern Show on Sirius Satellite Radio. Although Melissa has a varied and high level of performance experience, she is currently focusing on opera and looks forward to expanding her talents into the great cities of the world.
