Biography:Soprano Rosa D’Imperio’s “beautifully dark and sensual voice” (El Nuevo Día), “tall, handsome and dramatic presence” (The News-Times) and “technical mastery” (La Nuova) have allowed her to excel in a variety of operatic roles. She is recognized as one of the few “lirico-drammatico” sopranos of the latest generation of singers. She began her professional career singing Mimì in La Bohème for the New York Grand Opera and for Opera de Puerto Rico, as well as Musetta for Palm Beach Opera and New Rochelle Opera. She returned to Palm Beach for Desdemona in Otello and made her Cleveland Opera debut as Marguerite in Faust, of which Opera News said: “…D’Imperio’s clear voice and sure dramatic sense were just right for Marguerite.”

Her fascinating portrayals of Tosca and of Santuzza in Cavalleria Rusticana for Opera de Puerto Rico were telecast on National TV. She has also sung Tosca and Santuzza for Opera of New Rochelle and New York Grand Opera. After her performance of scenes as Manon Lescaut and as Giorgetta in Il Tabarro for Opera de Puerto Rico’s “Puro Puccini” Gala, El Nuevo Día wrote of Ms. D’Imperio: “consistently stupendous”. She has received critical acclaim for her “beautiful and imposing voice”, “great expressive power”, “hypnotic vocal phrasing”, “warm spinto soprano that soared effortlessly”, ”nice pianissimi”, “big vibrant voice yet pure” and “affecting presence”.

This versatile soprano first attracted critical attention singing Odabella in Attila during the New York Grand Opera’s Viva Verdi Cycle. Since then, she has performed Leonora in Oberto for Sarasota Opera of which Opera News wrote: “Agile of tone, and singing with gleaming tone, Ms. D’Imperio provided the best moments of the production”. This past season, her performances of Aida for Gateway Opera and Opera of the Hamptons were singled out by New York critics.

The New York Newsday wrote: “Rosa D’Imperio made a compelling Aida, with a fluid range and impressive dramatic communication…” Dan’s Papers called her “a heavenly Aida… with a voice of rich purity and range…”

The Italian Voice wrote that “D’Imperio was one of the best Aidas in memory” and that “her lovely soprano could soar thrillingly and float exquisitely”. For her most recent Aidas in Puerto Rico she received critical praise such as “a dramatic soprano that is able to modulate the voice down to the most exquisite pianissimo…” 'Most recently her Abigailles in NABUCCO were also critically acclaimed by the 'Neue Zurcher Zeitung' (the Zurich Times) 'Die Welt' (Hamburg) and by the 'Badische Zeitung' and a commercial DVD of this production will be released in 2007

She has also sung Desdemona with the One World Symphony in NYC. Switzerland. Other Verdi heroines she has performed in concerts are Amelia in Un Ballo in Maschera, Elisabetta in Don Carlo, Leonora in Il Trovatore, and the soprano solo in the Verdi Requiem for the West Village Chorale. She also covered Leonora in La Forza del Destino for Placido Domingo’s Verdi Gala produced by Culturarte de Puerto Rico.

In Italy, she sang the title role in Strauss’s Die Ägyptische Helena as well as the First Lady in Die Zauberflöte for Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, Sardinia. Other past engagements have been Giulietta in Tales of Hoffmann for Teatro de la Opera in San Juan, Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus in Palm Beach, and Dolores in La Dolorosa for the Puerto Rico Zarzuela & Operetta Foundation. Her repertoire also includes the title role of Bellini’s Norma, Cilea’s Adriana Lecouvreur, Giordano’s Fedora and Ginevra in La Cena delle Beffe, which she covered for Teatro Grattacielo.

Rosa D’Imperio has traveled around the world as a concert soloist, appearing at the Theater An Der Wien, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Richard Tucker Foundation, George Jellinek Show, and for the symphony orchestras of Krakow, Prague, Sofia, Shanghai (Beethoven’s 9th), Fuxjo, Danbury, and Puerto Rico (Bach’s Magnificat).
