General | | Biography: | Described by the New York Concert Review as a fine, serious, conscientious violinist with a solid, disciplined technique, secure intonation and good facility, Bruno Peña now resides in New York, after receiving his Master’s Degree from the Mannes College of Music, New York City, where he was a scholarship student of Nina Beilina and also scholarship recipient from the financial institution Cajastur, in Spain.
He has performed at prestigious concert halls such as Carnegie Hall, Merkin Concert Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, Symphony Space… and collaborated with the orchestras of New England Symphonic Ensemble, The Chamber Orchestra of New York, Ensemble du Monde, New Philharmonic of New Jersey, Principality of Asturias Symphony Orchestra, Oviedo Symphony Orchestra with conductors such as Kurt Masur, Leonard Slatkin, JoAnn Falletta, Joseph Colaneri, Maximiano Valdes, Leon Hyman, Samuel Wong, David Hayes…
Mr. Peña received a Prize in the Artist International Competition 2003 in New York, where he was awarded a recital in Merkin Concert Hall. In 1999 he was awarded First Prize Performance in the Amics de la Musica Competition and a year later was finalist in Concurso Permanente de Juventudes Musicales in Spain.
Born in Barcelona, Spain, he began his musical studies at the age of five with piano lessons and two years later started violin studies with Wieslaw Rekucki at the Conservatory of Music “Eduardo Martinez Torner” in Oviedo.
Mr. Peña continued to pursue his studies at the Oviedo Superior Conservatory where he graduated with the highest honors in violin with Maestro Alexei Michlin and in chamber music with Tsiala Kvernadze.
After receiving his Graduate Diploma in Spain, he was admitted to the Sweelinck Conservatorium of Amsterdam where he studied with Keiko Wataya.
As a recitalist and soloist Mr. Peña has concertized in his native Spain, The United States, France, Portugal and the Netherlands. |
