General | | Biography: | A native of Northport, NY, Dana Zenobi recently earned critical acclaim as "a soprano to listen for" with "dazzling coloratura and irresistible phrasing" as Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance, which she performed while in residence with Lyric Opera Cleveland for her second season as a Young Artist. During the 2006-2007 season, the young soprano looks forward to returning to Austin Lyric Opera in the American premiere of Philip Glass' Waiting for the Barbarians, and to singing Konstanze and Donna Elvira with Opera in the Heights (Houston, TX). Ms. Zenobi spent last summer with the Aspen Opera Theater Center, where she sang Alinda in a new production of Cavalli's Giasone, and in the summer of 2004 she was privileged to be involved in a critically acclaimed production of Mark Adamo's Little Women directed by the composer at Lyric Opera Cleveland. She has also won praise from the Houston press for her work as Violetta [La Traviata] and Mimi [La Bohème], and her portrayal of Adina [L'Elisir d'Amore] earned her a 2003 Austin Critics' Table Award nomination for Best Female Singer. She made her debut with The Living Opera (Richardson, TX) in 2005 as Donna Elvira [Don Giovanni], and her other roles include Donna Anna [Don Giovanni], and Susanna [Le Nozze di Figaro]. A success on the competition circuit, Ms. Zenobi won the voice division of the Entergy Young Texas Artists Competition, and second place in the National Federation of Music Clubs' prestigious Biennial Young Artist Competition, and has been selected as a semi-finalist in the Society for Contemporary Opera's International Opera Singers' Competition this fall. Concert credits include the soprano solos in Beethoven's Ninth Symphony with the Valley Symphony Orchestra and Chorale (McAllen, TX), as well as the Haydn Lord Nelson Mass, Fauré Requiem, and Schubert Mass in G. Ms. Zenobi holds a Master's Degree from the University of Texas at Austin where she studied with Martha Deatherage, and a Bachelor's Degree from Duke University where she was a student of Susan Dunn. Following her graduate work, Ms. Zenobi studied with Juli Wood. She is currently based in Texas where she works with principal coach Hank Hammett, but spends much of her time at home in New York, where she studies with Irene Gubrud. |
