General | | Biography: | Dominique Frigo excels in dramatic roles calling for a larger voice. Most recently, she played Suzuki in Madama Butterfly (2007). She played Zita and the Maestra Della Novizie with Opera Illinois’ production of Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi and Suor Angelica. Her other performances include Erde from Das Rheingold, Maddalena from Verdi’s Rigoletto, Azucena from Verdi's Il Trovatore , Zia Principessa from Puccini’s Suor Angelica; Ulrica from Verdi's Un Ballo in Maschera Isabella from L'Italiana in Algieri, Dalila from Saint Saens’ Samson & Dalila, and Amneris (excerpts) from Verdi’s Aida. Her concert experience has been varied, including numerous performances of the alto solo for Handel's Messiah, the Vivaldi Magnificat, the Bach Magnificat, and the alto solo in the Bach B Minor Mass under the direction of William Chin with Chicago Summer Sings! She also performed as Hansel in Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel. Her awards include a finalist with the Bel Canto Chorus (2006), a semi finalist with the Lotte Lehman Foundation's art song competition, and a semi-finalist with the Center for Contemporary Opera's International Opera Singer's competition. Ms. Frigo made her debut at Chicago Symphony Center’s lecture series performing from Verdi’s Nabucco in 2001. Her upcoming performances include the Mother in Amahl and the Night Visitors, and a performance of the Bach Magnificat. |
