General | | Biography: | Born Pirna, Germany, 28 year-old mezzo-soprano Katja Starke is attracting attention for her delicate portrayals in the most demanding operatic repertoire. Ms. Starke was a member of the exclusive Operhaus Zurich young artist training program from 2002-2004. While at Operhaus Zurich, Ms. Starke sang principal roles and cover in Rigoletto, I Vespri Siciliani, Der Rosenkavalier, and Die Meistersinger.
Since 2004 Ms. Starke has been a FEST singer at Theater St. Gallen in Switzerland. In St. Gallen she has sung principal roles in Norma, Cavalleria Rusticana, Don Giovanni (Donna Elvira), Carmen, Eugene Onegin and Hänsel und Gretel.
In September 2007, Ms. Starke will appear as Christine in the Swiss Opera “Schwarze Spinne.” This opera made its premiere in St. Gallen in 1943 and this new production is receiving a great deal of interest in European musical circles. |
